Alfred Herman Kleiner

Adams - Alfred Herman Kleiner, 92, of 105 Friend St. died yesterday at home. Born in Adams on Dec. 1, 1915, son of Henry and Henrietta Wolfrum Kleiner, he attended local schools. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with a field artillery unit in the European theater from Feb. 6, 1941, to Nov. 30, 1945, attaining the rank of sergeant. Mr. Kleiner was employed as a foreman at the former W.R. Grace Co. in Adams, retiring in 1979 with 33 years of service. He was responsible for overseeing the making of the world's largest print blanket, which was 312 feet long and 7,611 inches wide. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church and a member of Adams Post 160 American Legion and the W.R. Grace Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, mushrooming and traveling. He and his wife, the former Josephine K. Schultz, were married April 11, 1942. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Alfred Herman "Chuck" Kleiner Jr. of Manchester, N.H.; a daughter, Patricia A. Lennon of Cheshire; a brother, Paul Kleiner of Adams; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Alfred Kleiner, who died yesterday, Jan. 11, 2008, surrounded by his family, will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. from PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus' Church. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus' Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire or to Adams Post 160 American Legion, both through the funeral home. Some of Mr. Kleiner's favorite vacation spots were Hawaii, Mexico, Alaska, New Zealand and Europe. He had also gone on several cruises, including the Panama Canal. He was fortunate to have shaken Pope John Paul's hand twice while in Rome with Father John Chwalek and his tour group. Mr. Kleiner also leaves a daughter-in-law, Coralee; a son-in-law, David; five grandchildren, David J. Lennon Jr. of Adams, Debra Ann Abbatiello of Austin, Texas, Daniel P. Lennon of Adams, Kathryn Dickinson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Timothy A. Kleiner of Manchester, N.H.; 12 great-grandchildren, Shannon, Erin, David Alfred, Patrick, Mackenzie, Shaelin, Collin, Keira, Briana, Madilyn, Olivia and Shawn; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by six brothers, Henry, Walter, Gerhardt, Emil, Max and Otto Kleiner, and by two sisters, Esther Herzog and Ella Genesi.
