GREAT BARRINGTON - Mary "Mae" Fritz, 98, of 6 Linda Lane, Housatonic, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at home. Born in Liverpool, England, on May 12, 1909, daughter of James J. and Florence Preston Ryan, she was educated in Liverpool. She emigrated to Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1927 and moved to Housatonic in 1951. Mrs. Fritz was employed as an executive secretary and office manager for the Great Barrington Registry of Motor Vehicles, retiring in 1979. Her husband, Paul Fritz, whom she married Sept. 3, 1951, died May 23, 2004. She leaves a son, John Gaissert of Strawsburg, Pa.; a daughter, Dorothy Sanchez of Westfield; a sister, Dorothy Cahill of Great Barrington, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mary "Mae" Fritz, will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. from BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Charles van Ausdall. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. The family will receive friends Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy in Mae's memory may be made to the Southern Berkshire Elderly Transport Association, in care of funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
