Elvira Encarnacao, 91

LEE - Elvira Encarnacao, 91, of Laurel Lake Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, died March 15, 2008, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. She was the mother of Doreen Hutchinson of Lee. Born in New Bedford on Jan. 11, 1917, daughter of Alexander and Mary Serpa Teixeira, she attended schools there. She was a lifelong resident of the Fairhaven and New Bedford area until she moved to Laurel Lake four years ago because of her health. Mrs. Encarnacao worked for the former Morse Cutting Tools mill in New Bedford as a tool grinder for 35 years, retiring in 1977. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in New Bedford and a member of St. John's Forever Young Club, the American-Portuguese War Veterans Ladies' Auxiliary and St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. John Church. She made beautiful stained glass, was an excellent seamstress and also made Nantucket baskets. Her husband, Manuel Encarnacao, is deceased. Besides her daughter and son-in-law, Edwin, of Lee, she leaves another daughter, Linda Tynan of Mashpee; two brothers, Aruthur Teixeira of Las Vegas and Charles Teixeira of Pine Grove, Calif.; a sister, Mary T. Costa of Las Vegas, three grandchildren Dr. Lisa M. Sylvia of Lee, Branden Sylvia of Westport and Nathan Tynan and his wife, Carol, of Fairhaven, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased eight brothers and sisters. FUNERAL NOTICE â€' A Celebration of the Life of Elvira Encarnacao with a requiem Eucharist will be conducted on Saturday, March 22, 10 at St. James' Episcopal Church in Great Barrington by the Rev. Francis Hills, rector. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Manuel and Elvira Encarnacao Educational Fund at Fairview Hospital through Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
