GREAT BARRINGTON â€' John R. Smith, 48, of Wyantenuck Street, Housatonic, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in North Adams on June 18, 1959, the son of Alma Harrington Smith and the late Richard Smith, he graduated from Monument Mountain Regional High School with the class
of 1978.
Mr. Smith was employed at Price Chopper for many years and was a front-end supervisor at the time of his death.
He enjoyed computers and gardening. He was considered a real "people person" who always had a kind word or gesture for everyone. He will be greatly missed by his Price Chopper family and all who knew him.
Aside from his mother, of Great Barrington, he leaves two sisters, Theresa Smith of Pownal, Vt., and Gwen Rich of North Adams; a brother, Paul Smith and his wife, Cindy, of
the town of Florida; a stepbrother, Rick Bassett and his wife, Rose, of North Adams; a
sister-in-law, Teresa Carr Smith of Great Barrington, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by another brother, Steven Smith in 2003, and another stepbrother, Roger Rynkowski, also in 2003.
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' The funeral for John R. Smith will be conducted on Monday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at Finnerty and Stevens Funeral Home with the Rev. Mattie Conway officiating.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, May 11, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
