John C. Louison, 84

GREAT BARRINGTON — John Cleary Louison, 84, of Bloomfield, Conn., a native of Great Barrington, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at St. Francis' Hospital in Hartford, Conn., surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Arsene and Elizabeth Cleary Louison. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific theater. Mr. Louison was employed as a credit manager for Ben Elfman in the wholesale distribution floor-covering business. He was a former president of the Connecticut Floor Covering Association, which honored him as Man of the Year. He was a member of the Lions Club and of James A. Modolo Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, both in Great Barrington. An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of the Wyantenuck Country Club. He leaves his wife of 61 years, the former Janet Wallace; a son, Gene Louison and his wife, Patricia, of Farmington, Conn.; four daughters, Diane Akien of Vernon, Conn., Jacqueline Brenn and her husband, Peter, of Willington, Conn., Melanie Chapman and her husband, Donald, of East Granby, Conn., and Elizabeth Farnham and her husband, John, of Hebron, Conn.; two brothers, Robert Louison of Stockbridge and Richard "Rit" Louison of Housatonic; two sisters, Elaine Shea of Springfield and Mary Edmundson of Vero Beach, Fla., and eight grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, John, Megan, Kendra, Joseph, Haley, Rebecca, Matthew and Justin. FUNERAL NOTICE — A graveside service with military honors to celebrate Mr. Louison's life will be held on Saturday, May 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Bridget's Cemetery in Housatonic, conducted by Deacon Edward Shaw. Funeral services were held at an earlier date at Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield, Conn. Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, is in charge of arrangements.
