Janet F. Sigsworth, 89
GREAT BARRINGTON — Janet Frances Sigsworth, 89, formerly of 909 South Main St., died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Fairview Commons Nursing Center.
Born in East Chatham, N.Y., on Oct. 7, 1918, the daughter of William B. and Anna Marie Eberle Tompkins, she moved to the Berkshires with her family in 1931 and attended schools in both New York and Massachusetts.
Mrs. Sigsworth worked at Becton Dickinson & Co. in Canaan, Conn., for 20 years until retiring in 1982.
She was a member of First Congregational Church and one of its "loving Grandmothers," who made small baby blocks. She was a member of the former Great Barrington Grange from 1970 to 1988, when she joined the Pomona Grange in West Stockbridge until 2000. She was also a member of the Great Barrington Thursday Morning Club from 1986 to 2003 and belonged to AARP.
She leaves two daughters, Janet F. Cunningham of Lanesborough and Barbara Cardillo of Hudson, Fla.; two sons, Thomas F. Sigsworth Jr. of Ocala, Fla., and Kenneth F. Sigsworth of Greenfield, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Another son, William J. Sigsworth, died Sept. 3, 1964, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was also predeceased by her sister Marie Elizabeth Wells and a brother William Borgert Tompkins Jr.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Janet F. Sigsworth will be conducted on Friday, June 20, at 11 a.m. at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington by the Rev. Charles VanAusdall. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 19, from 4 until 6 at the funeral home in Great Barrington.
