Leroy E. Davis, 82
STOCKBRIDGE — Leroy E. Davis, 82, of 5 Pine St., died Friday July 11, 2008, at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington.
Born in Great Barrington on July 7, 1926, son of Roy N. and Clarissa Chaffee Davis, he attended schools in Mill River and New Marlborough.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 17th Airborne Division 194. He asked for immediate induction and served his country from 1944 until the end of the war as a rifleman.
Mr. Davis worked for the Springfield Armory, Kimbal Motors and J.H. Maximillian, and retired from Vincent Trucking in 1988.
He enjoyed fishing and traveling.
He and his wife, the former Jean O'Brien, were married on Aug. 20, 1949 in Pittsfield.
He leaves a son, Art Davis and his wife, Nancy, of Housatonic; a daughter, Audrey Davis of Monument Beach; a brother, Merrill of Lee; three grandchildren, a great-grandson and a niece, Melissa Pothul of Great Barrington.
FUNERAL SERVICE — A graveside service for Leroy E. Davis will be conducted Tuesday, July 15, at 1 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery by the Rev. David Rogers. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that expressions of sympathy in Mr. Davis' memory be made to the Fairview Commons Activities Fund in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, which is in charge of arrangements.
