Nathan Horelly, 90

GREAT BARRINGTON â€' Nathan Horelly, 90, of Ramsey Avenue died Tuesday morning, Aug. 26, 2008, at Laurel Lake Nursing Center in Lee. A Great Barrington native born on June 5, 1918, he was the son of Morris and Rebecca Lubetsky Horelly. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. An Army veteran of World War II, he enlisted on March 3, 1942. For his service, he received the Good Conduct, American Campaign, World War II Victory, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medals. He served in England and in the Philippines before being honorably discharged on Jan. 14, 1946. Mr. Horelly worked for Carr Hardware in Pittsfield for more than 60 years before retiring from his position as senior buyer. He was a member and past master of the Cinncinnatus Mason Lodge AF&AM and member of James A. Modolo VFW Post 8348. He was an avid fan of baseball, especially the Boston Red Sox, and of basketball. He enjoyed fast cars and playing cards. He vacationed in Hawaii and Las Vegas, and spent winters in his home in Fort Myers, Fla. Mr. Horelly held a special place in his heart for his German shepherd, Gretel. His first wife, the former Janet Coleman, died in 1985. His wife, the former Marjorie C. Couse Graham, whom he married in Fort Myers in 1991, died in 2003. He leaves a daughter, Sally Ann Long and her husband, Ronald E. Long, of Plainfield, Ill.; a sister, Bettirose Horelly Eisner of Longmeadow; a grandson, Anthony E. Long of Liverpool, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren, James Anthony Long, Anthony Paul Long, Paul Anthony Long, Terry Allen Long, and three great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves two stepdaughters, Beth I. Graham of Southampton and Holly Graham Martin of Ellicott City, Md. He was predeceased by two brothers, Max and Harry Horelly; two sisters, Sophie Goldstein and Jeanne "Jennie" Perlman, and another grandson, Scott Anthony Long. FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Funeral services for Nathan Horelly will be conducted on Friday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. from Finnerty and Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington by Rabbi Ari Rosenberg. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Aug. 28, from 5 until 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. I liked Nathan. He was always so correct with his language. His room was next to my father's. A good and intelligent man. I will miss seeing him and his positive energy as well as the pictures of his favorite German Shepherd. Rest in Peace, Nathan. From Maria Riera (Antonio's daughter).
