Gordon L. Beebe, 83

STOCKBRIDGE — Gordon L. Beebe, 83, of Mohawk Lake Road, Glendale, died Sept. 21, 2008, at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington. Born in Great Barrington on May 2, 1925, the son of Bernard and Nina Root Beebe, he attended local schools and was a graduate of the former Williams High School in Stockbridge. An Army veteran of World War II, he enlisted on July 15, 1943, and served with Battery B, 457th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion, in the Philippines, including on Luzon, and in New Guinea. He received the Good Conduct and Victory medals, the American Theater Campaign and Philippine Liberation ribbons, and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with bronze service arrowhead. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 16, 1946. Mr. Beebe worked for more than 40 years at Rising Paper Mill, beginning as truck driver for both long and short hauls before joining the Army. He attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was a member of the Adams-Budz VFW Post 8183 in Housatonic. An outdoorsman, enjoyed deer hunting. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Delores Markham Beebe; two sons, Gordon L. Beebe Jr. and his wife, Francine, of West Stockbridge and Lesley B. Beebe of Glendale, and a daughter, C. Dawn Moneghan and her husband, Jack, of Warrington, Pa. FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Gordon L. Beebe will be private.
