NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' Ada Esther Canale, 95, of 85 Eagle St., died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at North Adams Commons.
Born in North Adams on May 15, 1913, daughter of Eugenio and Julia Barberi Arrighini, she attended schools in North Adams.
Mrs. Canale was employed at the former Clark Biscuit Co. and the former Sprague Electric Co., from which she retired. She also worked at the former Whitney's Drug Store.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. She was a member of the Drury Mom's Club and the Sons of Italy. She enjoyed cooking, and playing bingo and cards.
Her husband, Anthony J. Canale, whom she married July 7, 1940, died on June 27, 1983.
She leaves a daughter, Sheila M. Sprague and her husband, Paul, of North Adams; a son, Anthony E. Canale of North Adams; a sister, Eva Ferris of North Adams; a brother, Eugene Arrighini of North Adams; three grandchildren, Peter Sprague and his wife, Shari, of Tamarac, Fla., Justin Canale of Atlanta and Sarah Canale of New York City, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by another daughter, Sheila Julia Canale on May 1, 1946, her sisters Angelina Carleton and Lena Arrighini and her brother Augustino "Gustia" Arrighini.
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Ada Canale will be celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 11 from St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours at Flynn & Dagnoli-montagna Home For Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, will be Tuesday morning from 9 until 10:30. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Angel of Hope Children's Memorial in care of the funeral home.
