Edward W. Bailey, 87
STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. â€' Edward W. Bailey, 87, of Interlaken Crossroad, Interlaken, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in Chatham, N.Y., on Dec. 26, 1920, son of Oscar and Hazel R. Westover Bailey, he attended local schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. He moved to Interlaken in 1949.
An Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he enlisted on Aug. 28, 1942, and received the European African Middle Eastern Theater, American Theater, Good Conduct and Victory medals. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 19, 1945.
Mr. Bailey was employed by the former General Electric in Pittsfield for 40 years, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of 1st Congregational Church in Stockbridge. He always enjoyed flying and had a passion for airplanes.
He and his wife, the former Bonnie McCoy, were married on Sept. 6, 1947, at United Methodist Church in Pittsfield.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Pam Bailey of Vicksburg, Miss., and Paula Bailey Pickett of Interlaken; a son, Kevin R. Bailey of Gilbert, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Oldakowski of Minnesota, Anna Mary Grace Bailey of Arizona and Hannah and Jay Pickett of Interlaken, and a great-grandson, Ashton Oldakowski.
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Funeral services for Mr. Bailey will be held on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 1 p.m. at 1st Congregational Church of Stockbridge. Burial with military honors will follow in Stockbridge Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
