William J. Gaffey, 76
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — William James Gaffey, 76, of 33 Rich St. died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in North Adams on June 17, 1932, son of James and Evelyn Higgins Gaffey, he attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School in 1950.
Mr. Gaffey was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for many years, retiring in 1988.
He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and a member of the North Adams Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid golfer.
He and his wife, the former Joann Wiles, were married Jan. 2, 1976.
Besides, his wife, he leaves a son, Matthew F. Gaffey of Williamstown; three daughters, Kathleen A. LeClair of North Adams, Linda Green of Hudson, N.H., and Debora Rose of Dalton; five stepchildren, Kathleen Sherman of Clarksburg, Steven Burdick and Richard Burdick, both of North Adams, Lawrence Burdick of South Berwick, Maine, and Rebecca Shannon of Canton; a sister, Mary Pilot of North Adams; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three grandchildren, Nicole Rose, Shannon Gaffey and Nathan Sherman.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Gaffey will be conducted Tuesday morning, Dec. 30, at 8:15 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 4 to 7. Memorial contributions may be made to Berkshire County Chapter of the Special Olympics or the Down Syndrome Society in care of the funeral home.
