Frances J. Newell, 88

READSBORO, Vt. — Frances "Fannie" Jane Newell, 88, a resident of School Street died Thursday evening, March 26, 2009, at her home. Born in Lynn, Mass., on Jan. 23, 1921, the daughter of Frank A. and Mary Adamesky Janovsky, she attended local schools. Mrs. Newell loved sewing and mending and was known throughout the area for her sewing expertise. She could fix anything and always had a needle in her hand. She was very proud of surviving the 1938 hurricane that hit New England while working at the Whitcomb Summit in Florida, Mass. She cherished times spent with her family. She was very involved with both the Baptist and Catholic churches in Readsboro, was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 29 and helped care for senior citizens. Her husband, Lawrence Newell, whom she married on April 7, 1939, in Rowe, Mass., died Dec. 15, 1997. She leaves her son Phillip Newell and his wife, Sandra, of Fairmount City, Pa.; three daughters Ellen Lusco and her husband, Julian, of Sun City, Ariz., Patricia Kingsley of Winchester, N.H. and Gladys Williams of North Adams, Mass.; her grandchildren Tame Smith, Diana Harvey, Stacia McKenna, Zachary Newell, Bradley Newell, Aaron Kingsley, Brent Williams and Traci Williams and her great granddaughter Emily Newell. FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mrs. Newell will be held Thursday morning, April 2, at 11 at First Baptist Church in Readsboro. Interment will be in the family lot in Readsboro Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, April 1, from 6 to 8 at Covey & Allen Funeral Home, 44 East Main St., Wilmington, Vt.
