Helen M. Robert Joy, 98
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Helen Mary Robert Joy, 98 of 49 Willow Dell died Monday, May 25, 2009, at home.
Born in North Adams on April 3, 1911, daughter of Ernest E. and Mary Dolan Smith, she attended North Adams schools.
Mrs. Joy was employed for 20 years as property manager for Mr. Partridge, who owned apartment buildings on East Main Street in North Adams. Before that, she worked at the former General Cleaners and Sprague Electric Co.
She was a communicant of the former Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church and was a member of its bingo and bazaar committees. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Her first husband, Ernest J. Robert, is deceased.
Her husband, Harry A. Joy, died in 1971.
She leaves a daughter, Roberta M. Ferrara of North Adams, with whom she made her home; two stepdaughters, Cheryl Gardner of North Adams and Brenda Greenlaw of Clarksburg; a sister, Shirley Harding of Greenwich, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Lynn Gilman of Plymouth, Kathi Armstrong of Houston, Texas, and Lisa Prevey of Sagamore Beach, eight great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Four brothers and sisters are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Joy will be celebrated Wednesday June 3, at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
