Alexander G. Cheesbro, 78

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Alexander Gordon "Alec" Cheesbro, 78, of 154 Charlene St. died Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Williamstown Commons after a brief illness. Born in North Adams on Sept. 30, 1931, son of Gordon and Elmira Little Cheesbro, he attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School in 1950. An Army veteran, he served in Berlin during the Korean War. Mr. Cheesbro was employed as a textile engraver for 26 years at the former Arnold Print Works. He retired from Excelsior Process & Engraving in North Adams in 1994. He also worked for a time at Sprague Electric Co., Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks, Conn., Avis Rent-a-Car in Hartford, Conn., and Union Roto Engravers in Putnam, Conn. In his younger years, he was an accomplished skier and pool player and, later in life, enjoyed road trips, especially to Alaska. He was a member of the American Legion Post 125 and VFW Post 996. He was a retired member of the Machine Printers & Engravers Union and a member of the Greylock Community Club. His first wife, the former Judith Wondoloski, is deceased. He and his wife, the former Barbara Smith, were married June 6, 1969, in Hartford, Conn. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Linda Kapetan and her husband, Gary, of Las Vegas; two sons, Wayne Cheesbro and his wife, Charlene, and Michael Lee Cheesbro, all of North Adams; two brothers, Bruce Cheesbro and his wife, Carolyn, of North Adams and Ed Chesbro of New Hampshire; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Cheesbro of North Adams and Erika Cheesbro of North Easton; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Kylie Palumbo, both of North Adams, a sister-in-law, Sharon Danewood and her husband, Gary, of Parrish, Fla., and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by another son, Neal Cheesbro FUNERAL NOTICE — There will be no calling hours for Mr. Cheesbro and burial will be private at the family's convenience. Memorial donations are suggested for the North Adams Ambulance Service or the donor's choice through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
