Joan M. Nichols, 83
HANCOCK, Mass. — Joan Mary Nichols, 83, of 2309 Hancock Road died Sunday, March 28, 2010, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in North Adams on Sept. 19, 1926, a daughter of Charles Roberts and Rachel Circe Sanguinet, she graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School in North Adams.
Mrs. Nichols was employed for 21 years as a bookkeeper at the former Grand Union Supermarket in Williamstown after raising her family. In her earlier years, she worked at Berkshire Gas Co.
She was a longtime communicant of Sts. Patrick and Raphael Parish in Williamstown. She enjoyed knitting, traveling and spending time with her family.
Her husband, Clayton J. Nichols, whom she married Aug. 2, 1952, died Jan. 30, 1980.
She leaves three daughters, Christine Nichols of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., and Suzette Anthony and Annette Woodside, both of East Greenbush, N.Y.; four sons, Clayton Nichols, Peter Nichols and Kevin Nichols, all of Hancock, and Paul Nichols of Dalton; a brother, Charles Sanguinet of Lunenburg; a sister, Phyllis Bullett of Norh Adams, 13 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Nichols will take place Wednesday, March 31, at 11 at St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Hancock Cemetery.
A calling hour will be held Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire or the Hancock Volunteer Fire Deptartment through the funeral home.
