Arthur V. Dumas, 85
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Arthur Vincent Dumas, 85, of 204 Phelps Ave. died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in North Adams on Aug. 5, 1925, son of Alfred and Josephine St. John Dumas, he attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School. He also attended Davidson College in North Carolina.
An Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he served as a bombardier-navigator until his honorable discharge as a second ieutenant.
Mr. Dumas was employed at the North Adams Transcript for 46 years until his retirement in 1989.
He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. He enjoyed golf and had been a member of Waubeeka Golf Links in Williamstown. He also enjoyed bowling and trips to Saratoga, N.Y. He was a Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics fan.
He and his wife, the former Joan Agnes Andrews, whom he married on Oct. 27, 1951, in the former St. Francis of Assisi Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Bonnie Lynn Burns of Torrance, Calif., and Audrey Sue Dumas of North Adams; his beloved extended family members Gary Ghidotti of North Adams, Sal Salas of Torrance, Sierra Salas, Berrie Salas, Gina Salas Cortes, and Autumn and Olivia Cortes; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mr. Dumas will be Monday, Nov. 29, at 10:15 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Sunday, Nov. 28, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to North Adams Ambulance Service or St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in care of the funeral home.
