Verne R. Gould Jr., 77

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Verne Raoul "Bud" Gould Jr., 77, of 117 Glen Ave. died Friday, March 18, 2011, at home. Born in North Adams on Dec. 15, 1933, son of Verne R. Gould Sr. and Eva Champagne Gould, he attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School. He also attended the former North Adams Technical School. During high school, he was a star athlete who played baseball, football, basketball and track. He later played semi-pro baseball. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Gould was last employed by Williams College in its Buildings and Grounds Department for 25 years until his retirement. Before that, he worked at Betti Oil Co. and former Climax Candy Co. He also operated the former Mohawk Garage with his brother. He was a member of the Richard Ruether American Legion Post 152 of Williamstown. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid sportsman. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He leaves his wife, the former Elizabeth Keith, whom he married on July 24, 1965; a son, Todd Gould of Lanesborough; a daughter, Traci Gould of North Adams; a sister, Dorothy Stremus of Maryland; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Logan, and nieces and nephews. A brother, Lawrence Gould, is deceased. FUNERAL NOTICE - Calling hours for Mr. Gould will be held, Monday, March 21, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will be at a later date in Southview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA and Hospice of Northern Berkshire in care of the funeral home.
