John E. Troop, 80
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - John E. Troop, 80, of 36 George Ave., died Thursday, June 16, 2011, at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in Gardner, Maine, on Feb. 15, 1931, a son of John Elwood and Gertrude Sparrow Troop, he was raised by his stepmother, Dorothy Butler Troop, after his mother died when he was young child. He graduated from Gardner High School.
A decorated Air Force veteran, he was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany.
Mr. Troop was employed at AT&T Telephone Co. in Augusta, Maine, and then transferred to North Adams, retiring in December 1989 from its successor, Verizon.
He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Beverley Dietrich Troop, whom he married March 10, 1956; three loving children, a son, John "Jack" Troop Jr. and his wife, Wende, of Pittsfield, and two daughters, Diane Golrick and her husband, Paul, of Quakertown, Pa., and Laurie Boudreau and her husband, Don, of Clarksburg; a sister, Joan Banks of the state of Florida; seven grandchildren, Corey Troop and his wife, Nicole, Kayleigh Troop, Matthew Troop, Kyle Golrick, Carolyn Golrick, Brian Boudreau and Holly Boudreau; a great-grandson, Elliot Troop, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters Phyllis Doyle, Verna Theroux and Mable Allen, and his brothers Donald Troop and Harold Troop.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for John Troop will take place Monday, June 20, at 9 a.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will take place with military honors in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will take place at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested for the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home.
