Donald K. Laws, 79

ADAMS, Mass. — Donald Kenneth Laws, 79, of 6 Woods Drive died Tuesday morning, July 5, 2011, at Williamstown Commons. Born in Glasgow, Del., on Nov. 19, 1931, a son of Charles and Ida Rickards Laws, he attended schools in Delaware, and had lived in Adams since 1964. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953. Mr. Laws last worked as the chief accountant for Petricca Industries in Pittsfield from 1973 until retiring in December 1993. Earlier, he was supervisor of the accounting department, manager of employee relations, and controller at the former Budd Co. and its successors, Rochester Paper Co. and James River-Rochester Corp. He was a former member of the former First United Methodist Church in North Adams. He was a longtime bird watcher and was a volunteer at Berkshire Bird Paradise in Petersburgh, N.Y., for many years. He enjoyed fishing and refurbishing old hand tools. He enjoyed country music, and Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard were his favorite performers. He was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. His wife, the former Dorothy J. Litwhiler, whom he married Jan. 22, 1960, died June 6, 2009. He leaves a son, Donald R. Laws, of Adams; five sisters, Judy Hutchins and Alice McCommons, both of Delaware, and Helen Potts, Mary Keeley and Betty Reder, all of Maryland; two grandchildren, Jill Jenkins of Pittsfield and John Jenkins of Dalton; three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Laws. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Laws will be Friday, July 8, at 10 a.m. from Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, MA 01220. The Rev. Donald E. Gray of First Baptist Church of Adams will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 9 until the service at the funeral home.
