Russell A. Briggs, 89

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Russell Adam Briggs, 89, of 93 North St. died Sunday, July 17, 2011, at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on April 11, 1922, son of Adam and Laura Bissaillon Briggs, he attended the former Notre Dame School and Drury High School. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in France, Germany and Belgium. Mr. Briggs was employed by Kelly-Dietrich Distributors for 25 years until his retirement. He was first employed at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates, Windsor Print Works and Warren Wire companies. He then worked as a supervisor at Renton's Bakery and became a route salesman for Millbrook Bread and also Table Talk Pies. He then joined the Utica Club Brewery Co. for a short time. He was a communicant of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church. He was a member of the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion, Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW, Greylock Community Club, the Northern Berkshires Retired Men's Club, and the Mount Greylock Bowling League. Mr. Briggs was known as a "people person." He leaves his wife, the former Theresa Angeline Denno, whom he married on Oct. 24, 1942; a daughter, Patricia Dubis and her husband, John, of Hendersonville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Jason Bride, Tara Bride and David Dubis and his wife, Victoria; three great-grandchildren, Alyssa Bride, Kiara Bride and Christofer Steinhart, and nieces and nephews. Five brothers predeceased him: Galvin, Carl, Arthur, Roger and Louis Briggs. FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mr. Briggs will be Saturday, July 23, at 8:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, July 22, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home.
