Richard M. Wood, 82
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Richard Marcus Wood, 82, of 11 Foucher Ave. died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at North Adams Regional Hospital with his loving family at his side.
Born in Bennington, Vt., on Oct. 19, 1929, son of Harold A. and Agnes Jones Wood, he attended schools there, including the former Bennington High School.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Wood was employed by Williams College for 15 years until his retirement in 1993. Before that, he was employed by the former A&P Supermarket in North Adams for more than 20 years.
He was a communicant of the former Holy Family Church, where he was an usher and collector. He was a member of the Northern Berkshire Retired Men's Club, the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion and a former officer of the Greylock Community Club. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, and golf and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
He leaves his wife, the former Theresa Allard, whom he married on Dec. 26, 1951, in Sacred Heart Church in Bennington; a daughter, Valerie Turner of North Adams; three sons, Richard M. Wood Jr. of North Adams, Randy Wood of Clarksburg and Brian Wood of Stratford, Conn; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His sister, Alice Hoyt, and his two brothers Harold and Albert Wood predeceased him.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Wood will be Friday, Nov. 18, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Nov. 17, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth's Church in care of the funeral home.
