Jacob J. Schubnel, 96
STAMFORD, Vt. — Jacob J. Schubnel, 96, of 35 Hevey Road, North Attleboro, formerly of Stamford, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at his home. He was a former Stamford selectman and a founding member and treasurer of the Stamford Volunteer Fire Department.
Born in North Adams, Mass., on April 22, 1915, son of Joseph and Mary Giuse Schubnel, he attended Drury High School in North Adams.
Mr. Schubnel owned Hillside Manufacturing Co. in North Adams and was later employed as a machine design engineer at former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams until the time of his retirement.
He enjoyed spending his winters boating and fishing off the Florida Gulf Coast, painting, and building hand-carved violins.
His wife, the former Edith Clough, whom he married on Oct. 1, 1938, is deceased.
He leaves two sons, J. Ronald Schubnel and his wife, Erin, of Plainville, Mass., and Raymond Schubnel and his wife, Linda, of Huntington, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Julie Savoia of Uxbridge, Mass., Raymond Schubnel Jr. of Concord, Mass., and Michelle Schubnel of Oakland, Calif., and five great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Schubnel will be Friday, March 16, at 1:30 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church in North Adams. Burial will be in the spring in Millard Cemetery in Stamford.
