David J. Fisher, 84
POWNAL, Vt. - David J. Fisher, 84, of 7529 Route 7, died Sunday, July 15, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Born in Schenectady, N.Y., on Aug. 3, 1927, the son of David and Hazel Grabo Fisher, he was a 1944 graduate of Draper High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Union College in 1949.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a private, first class, from 1945 to 1947 and was awarded the Victory and WWII medals.
Mr. Fisher began his employment at General Electric in 1948 as a lab assistant in Pittsfield, Mass. In 1960, he transferred to West Milton, N.Y., working at the submarine nuclear reactor test site. He transferred back to Pittsfield in 1969 and retired in 1986, with six patents and three management awards to his credit.
He was an avid bowler and enjoyed computer science.
His first wife, the former Theresa O'Leary, whom he married in 1948, died on June 15, 1980.
He and his wife, the former Barbara McConnell Lussier, have celebrated 32 years of marriage.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Frederick Fisher of Rhinebeck, N.Y., David Fisher Jr. of Washington, Mass., and Dennis Fisher of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three daughters, Janet Ottendorf of Duanesburg, N.Y., Susan Luczynski of North Adams, Mass., and Nancy Underwood of Clarksburg, Mass.; three stepchildren, Wendy Accetta of Charlotte, N.C., Jeff Lussier of Hudson, Mass., and Julie Lussier of Hunterville, N.C.; 13 grandchildren, Joseph, Matthew, MacKenzie, Cullen, Rachel, Erin, Dylan, Ryan, Zachary, Emily, Sarah, Jordon and Stratton, and a great-grandchild, Stella Rose.
He was predeceased by his daughter Ann Marie Fisher and his brother, Edgar Fisher.
FUNERAL NOTICE - A graveside service with military honors for Mr. Fisher will be held in Southview Cemetery, North Adams, on Thursday, July 19, at 1 p.m. There will be no calling hours.
