ADAMS, Mass. — The Hoosac Valley football team made it two in a row with a commanding win over Chicopee, 35-6, at Renfrew Park on Friday night.

Just like Hoosac Valley’s last game, it got off to a great start, again dominating its opening possession. The Hurricanes pounded the ball on the ground and finished it off with a 37-yard touchdown run from Liam Feeley (85 yards).

Unlike its last game, this time Hoosac Valley (3-2) kept the offensive momentum going. After an onside kick recovery, Hoosac’s Casey Meczywor broke a 41-yard touchdown run to give them a 16-0 lead. Meczywor chipped in with 72 yards on the ground including that touchdown.

“I thought it was great for us to come out of the gates like that,” Hoosac Valley coach Dayne Poirot said. “It was good energy and started us off on the right foot.”

Hoosac continued to roll on the defensive side of the ball, shutting Chicopee down for most of the first half. It wasn’t until less than one minute left in the half that Chicopee struck on a 61-yard touchdown pass. With 24 seconds left on the clock Hoosac Valley somehow managed a late touchdown pass from Justin Meczywor to Josh Paree. This gave the Hurrricanes a 29-6 lead at half.

Hoosac added one more touchdown in the second half on a Justin Meczywor run to give them a 35-6 lead. A few second-half forced turnovers helped Hoosac keep control of the game before killing it off for good on the ground. This was a big game for Hoosac to keep things going in the right direction with a matchup against Pittsfield next Friday on the road.

With two games left to go in the regular season, each game is becoming more and more important for the Hurricanes if they want to continue into the post-season.

“This is where its critical from here on out. We had our backs against the wall a little bit and our guys need to keep pushing, especially with the big game against Pittsfield coming up,” Poirot said.

Chicopee will go on the road next Friday against Commerce looking to get its first win of the season.
