Week 4 is “Week Fore!” as we recognize Wahconah golfer Jon Dos Santos and Lee volleyball captain Shenna Tyer.

Most high school golfers are happy if they can occasionally break 40 in a nine-hole match. Dos Santos is averaging 39.2 strokes this fall and regularly posts his team’s lowest -- often the day’s lowest -- score when Wahconah is in action.

His team suffered a one-stroke loss to league-leading Taconic (a day on which Dos Santos medaled with a 39) to start the week but bounced back to take two matches on Thursday in what coach Pete Terpak characterized as the team’s best day of the season.

Dos Santos figures to be one of the players to watch next Sunday when the county’s best high school golfers head to Stockbridge Country Club for the annual Berkshire Individuals tournament.

Last year, he placed fifth in the event with an 82.

2015 Western Mass volleyball finalist Lee hit a bump in the road this fall with a season-opening loss to Mount Greylock at home.

This week, the Wildcats avenged that loss in a thrilling five-set win in Williamstown, a match in which Tyer recorded 10 kills, two blocks and six assists. They followed that up with a three-set win over Bennington, Vt.’s, Mount Anthony Union.

Tyer said the four-set loss to the Mounties back on Sept. 6 was a learning experience.

“Last time, it was the first game of our season, and we didn’t really mesh too well at first,” Tyer said after the win over the Mounties. “But working together, all the practices leading up to this game helped and really allowed us to get to know each other and get to play altogether as one team.

“I really wanted this. We all really wanted this. … It feels amazing to get this win.”
