SHEFFIELD, Mass. -- After earning a 2-2 tie with Mount Everett at home last month, the McCann Tech boys' soccer team was probably hoping for something more than a 3-0 loss in Monday's rematch on the road.

The Eagles (3-3-1) were on top of their game, however, and made some nice finishes to take a 2-0 lead in the first half. Nick Joyce flicked in a header off a corner kick by Alex Crane in the 13th minute to give Everett the lead. Blake Ferrara then scored his first varsity goal nearly 12 minutes later, chipping a shot over the head of Hornets' kepper Connor Vazquez (11 saves).

Overall, the Eagles outshot the visitors 16-7 and had a 7-1 edge in corner kicks in the first half.

"Mount Everett is consistently a strong team," McCann head coach Adam Kozik said. "When they outplay us as they did today, the question is whether or not they will finish. This afternoon, they managed two in the first half and we could not manage to equalize."

Senior Dylan Walker and Vazquez did a nice job of helping the Hornets' defense keep the game close in the second half, but the Eagles put the game away on a goal by Andrew Blume with just over two minutes left in the game. Colby Rueger and Demitri Casivante combined to make six saves to to earn the shutout in goal for Everett.

McCann (2-6-1) is back in action on Tuesday, when it hosts Westfield Voc. at 4 p.m.
