NEW LEBANON, N.Y. -- Gavin Ziegler scored in the 64th minute to break a 1-1 tie and give the Mount Everett boys soccer team a 2-1 win over Berlin, N.Y., in the opening round of the New Lebanon Tournament.

The Eagles (1-0) and Berlin did all of the scoring in a four-minute stretch that started when David Bautista-Cruz scored his first career varsity goal with an assist from Brendan Dempsey.

Two minutes later, Berlin scored to tie the game at 1-1.

But moments later, Cavan Brady set up Ziegler for the game-winner.

"It was a good back-and-forth battle from both teams," Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. "There were a couple of missed opportunties in the first half and the second. Mount Everett got some quality minutes from its bench players today."

Ryan Meyer made 16 saves to earn the win for the Eagles.

Mount Everett faces either host New Lebanon or Taconic Hills on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the tournament finale.
