Slow Start Costs Pittsfield Boys in Opener
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Pope Francis boys soccer team scored two goals in the first six minutes and held on for a 2-1 win over Pittsfield on Wednesday.
The Generals’ Quinn Schaller got his team on the board with a goal in the 42nd minute after taking a 2-0 deficit into half-time.
“I thought we started very slow and had some nervous energy,” Pittsfield coach Ryan Wanek said. “Making mental errors and giving goals away for free, but I am pleased with the way the team responded afterwards. I thought we were the better team after going down 2-0, our intensity and desire to win brought us back into the game.”
John Mullen made seven saves for PHS.
The Generals (0-1) host Northampton on Friday.
