Southwick Boys Soccer Edges Lenox

LENOX, Mass. – Sophomore Julian Ticconi scored the first two goals of his varsity career for Lenox, but a young Millionaires team dropped a 4-3 decision to Southwick on Opening Day on Tuesday.

 

The Rams struck first in the first five minutes, but Ticconi got the equalizer. The visitors then scored again to take a 2-1 lead into half-time.

 

It was 3-1 midway through the second half when Duke Jaehnig headed home a goal off a corner kick to get Lenox within one.

 

Again, Southwick stretched its lead to two goals before Ticconi scored the game’s final goal.

 

“The game finished at 4-3 but it was a hard fought battle for the entire 80 minutes with a Lenox team comprised of half freshman and sophomores combined with a very seasoned group of veteran players,” Lenox coach Jedd Hall  said. “The back line held strong, anchored by Addison Hall, Duke Jaehnig, Spencer Lanning and Langston Cotton.”

 

Michael McLaughlin made 10 saves in his varsity debut in goal.

 

“We expect to see good things from this team having really only been together for less than two weeks and holding their own against a very competitive Southwick squad,” Hall said.

 

Lenox (0-1) goes to Taconic on Thursday.
