WESTFIELD, Mass. – Giana Carlino scored midway through the second half Wednesday to give the sixth-seeded Lee girls soccer team a 1-0, upset win over No. 3 St. Mary’s in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class D Tournament.

Maddy Kotek came up huge in the Wildcats’ goal, stopping 22 shots to earn the clean sheet.

Leanna Driscoll set up Carlino for the game-winner with a corner kick in the 62nd minute.

“We started off flat in the first half but got it together in the second half,” Lee coach Gina  Guachione said. “Everyone stepped up and created more opportunities on offense.”

The Wildcats (14-3) move on to face No. 2 Hopkins Academy in the regional semi-finals. Hopkins beat Ware, 3-1, on Wednesday.
