NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Mary Nguyen has already crossed off joining the 100-point club on of her things-to-do list this fall. Now, after defeating Pathfinder 3-1 at home on Thursday, Nguyen and the McCann Tech girls' soccer team can scratch off qualifying for the Division 3 Western Mass. tournament.

The Hornets (9-1, 7-0) clinched their ninth win of the season against the Pioneers on Thursday, making them eligible for postseason play. To do that, Mike Dowling's club had to overcome an early 1-0 deficit as a result of Sarah Hess scoring off of a pass from Nadia Becker in the sixth minute of play.

Nguyen came back with an unassisted tally in the 27th minute to tie the game, however, before giving her team the lead three and half minutes later by scoring off an assist from classmate Alexa Durant. McCann held a 15-7 edge in shots in the game, including an 8-3 advantage in the second half. Durant eventually added an insurance goal for the hosts, scoring off a Monique Martel feed with just over a minute left in the game.

Junior Alex Wood made four saves in goal for the Hornets, while Jessie Macca had a busier day stopping 12 shots for Pathfinder.

McCann returns to action on Friday with a home game against Westfield Voc. at 4 p.m.
