NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Mary Nguyen and the McCann Tech girls' soccer team closed out the regular season in resounding fashion on Thursday, earning its fourth straight shutout win with a 3-0 home victory over Franklin Tech.

Nguyen scored the 100th goal of her career 15 minutes into the game by converting a penalty-kick opportunity. The senior forward then netted her 42nd goal of the season seven minutes into the second half off of a pass from junior Eileen Zajac. Freshman  Monique Martel sealed the victory in the 65th minute, scoring her fifth goal of the year to give the Hornets a final regular-season record of 16-1-1. Mike Dowling's club also earned its second straight Tri-County League title, blowing through league competition with a 13-0-1 mark.

The Eagles (5-6-3) gave McCann a good test in a 2-1 home loss earlier in the month, but they were outshot 14-2 in the rematch. Hornets' goalie Alex Wood needed to make just two saves in order to earn her fourth shutout in a row. Brooke Meuse was much busier in the Franklin goal, however, finishing the game with 11 saves.

The Hornets begin postseason play with a home game against Minuteman Tech in the state voc. semifinals at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. After that, the Hornets will set their sights on the Division 3 Western Mass. tournament.
