Back to the pitch this week, where the Vermont Medical Center Athletes of the Week are keying a couple of high-scoring offenses and highly successful teams in the early going.
Sophomore Isabella LaCasse leads the McCann Tech Hornets in goals with eight and assists with five.
McCann Tech has stormed out of the gate with a record of 4-0-2, scoring 28 goals in six games.
Last week, LaCasse had two goals and two assists in a wild 9-4 win over Westfield Tech and recorded a hat trick plus an assist in a 5-5 tie at St. Mary's.
McCann Tech is back in action on Tuesday with a trip to Springfield to take on Commerce before coming home to host Duggan on Thursday.
Seldom is there an easier pick for the Athlete of the Week than Wahconah senior Kevin Huban this week.
He led his side to three wins in five days, and Wahconah (4-1) takes a four-game winning streak into Tuesday's showdown at Mount Greylock.
Huban's week started with a five-goal performance against Taconic and continued with a hat trick against Hoosac Valley, a game in which he also set up a pair of goals.
After those two easy wins, Wahconah got a tough test at Monument Mountain, where Huban scored the game-winner in a come-from-behind win.
For the season, he has two assists and a team-leading nine goals.
The Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
