NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Mary Nguyen's 100th point of her career might have been the biggest one of her senior season.

The Hornets forward scored her 14th goal of the year just two and half mintues before halftime, giving her 100 points for her career and helping the McCann Tech girls' soccer team draw even in its game against Renaissance on Monday. Senior midfielder Alex Lincoln did the rest, scoring off of a pass from classmate Alexa Durant in the 51st minute to give the Hornets a huge 2-1 win over their main Tri-County League rival.

Nguyen now joins Heather Malloy and Kaitie Hendrickson, both of whom graduated with the Class of 2008, as the third McCann soccer player to notch 100 points in their career. Nguyen reached the mark faster than the previous two and has a great opportunity to surpass Malloy's school record of 118 career points. She has 15 points through the first five games of the season, needing 19 more points over the final 13 matches to break the school mark.

"Mary is a hard worker, who has improved her game over the past three years," Hornets head coach Mike Dowling said. "The improvement between her junior and senior year has been the most significant. She has gotten a lot better. She is fast, strong and very hard to cover. Mary will probably end up being the top scorer at McCann, and she even has a chance to score 100 goals in her four-year career."

The victory improves the Hornets' record to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in Tri-County League play. Renaissance, meanwhile, drops to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in league play. While there were plenty of reasons for McCann to celebrate after the game, Renaissance made sure it didn't get too excited during the match. It was by far the toughest test of the season so far for the Hornets, who held a slight 12-11 edge in shots in the game.

Dowling said junior Danielle Gibeau was a big help on the defensive end, while junior goalie Alex Wood finished with 11 saves to pick up the close win. Keeper Joanna Feliciano came through with nine stops in net for Renaissance.

McCann resumes a busy week on Tuesday with a road game at St. Mary's at 4 p.m.
