PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Unlike it's last two games, the Hoosac Valley girls' soccer team started strong against Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first half before holding on for a 5-2 win at BCC.

The Hurricanes, who improved to 4-0-2 with the win, used some nice passing and unselfish play to open up a 3-0 lead out of the gate. Eight minutes and 40 seconds into the game, senior Elizabeth Provost received a through-ball pass from freshman Marissa Felter and placed a nice shot inot the lower-left corner of the net. Junior Danielle Beauchemin then scored the first of her two goals on the day, volleying in a shot off of a direct kick from sophomore Alyssa Bush in the 25 minute of the game. Bush then gave her team a 3-0 lead by scoring off of a cross from classmate Courtney Hayer six minutes later.

"After a sluggish start against Lee, we tried to come out strong and find those combination plyas that we'll need to take to Western Mass.," Hoosac head coach Blair Mahar said. "Alyssa did a great job making plays happen and just being in the thick of it for 80 minutes. She had some beautiful crosses that provided us with some high-quality shots on goal. Jess Gale played a great defensive game, really shutting down traffic through the middle. And as always, Megan Richardson came up with some nice saves in net."

The Crusaders got a goal back from Bailey Vinette before halftime, but the 'Canes closed out the game by outscoring St. Joe's 2-1 in the second half. Jen Gale and Beauchemin each had unassisted goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half to buld an insurmountable 5-1 lead. Hoosac outshot the Crusaders 20-3 in the game, making it so Richardson needed only to make two saves to earn the win.

The Hurricanes next plat at Frontier at 4 p.m. on Friday.
