CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Ashlyn Lesure scored a pair of goals Friday as the Hoosac Valley girls soccer team won its home debut, 3-1, over Mahar.

The Senators started the game with a hard-luck goal for Hurricanes' keeper Emma Meczywor (nine saves) in the first three minutes.

Meczywor stopped an early penalty kick opportunity for the visitors, but the rebound was not cleared, and a Mahar player slotted the ball back post.

Hoosac Valley took control from there, ting the game on Lesure's first goal of the game, putting back her own rebound midway through the first half.

Tia Kareh gave the Canes the lead by converting a direct kick from 30 yards out into the upper 90.

Midway through the second half, Lesure gave Hoosac Valley some insurance.

The Hurricanes (3-2) host Mount Greylock on Tuesday.
