WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Defending Division 1 state champion West Springfield on Saturday handed the Mount Greylock girls soccer team its first loss of the year, a 3-0 decision.

Mount Greylock coach Tom Ostheimer said he was happy with his defense's ability to keep the Spartans off the board for the first 22 minutes of the game.

"This game was a good measuring stick for where we are this season and what we need to work on going forward," Ostheimer said.

Tenley Smith made nine saves for Mount Greylock (2-1).

The Mounties travel to face Pittsfield on Thursday.
