Bucky's Goal is Enough to Beat St. Joe's

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — An early goal by junior Miranda Bucky was just enough for the Mount Greylock girls' soccer team, which narrowly got by Saint Joseph's 1-0 on Thursday.

Bucky scored off a corner kick from junior Alex Majetich in the 14th minute of play, but the Mounties (4-2-2) couldn't find the back of the net again against a determined St. Joe's squad that previously lost 4-0 to Greylock in the first game of the season. The Crusaders (4-4-1) were much better the second time around, though, thanks mostly to the 15 saves made by goalie Kendall Smith.

Senior Margot Besnard stopped six shots in net for the Mounties, earning her fourth shutout of the year in the process. Greylock head coach Tom Ostheimer also credited eighth-grader Sarah Stripp with a solid game on the defensive end.

The Mounties next play at Wahconah on Friday. The game was rescheduled after a previous match last week was cancelled due to electrical problems at the field.
