Elliot's Hat Trick Lifts Lenox Girls
LENOX, Mass. – Jane Elliot’s hat trick Wednesday propelled the Lenox girls soccer team to a 4-2 win over Easthampton.
“The gates finally opened for Jane Elliot who had an amazing game,” Millionaires coach Nicole Gamberoni said.
And it came at a time when the team needed a lift.
“Yesterday at practice we went over our goals and expectations,” Gamberoni said. “After the loss to PHS, [assistant coach] Zufan [Bazzano] and I knew the girls needed a little pick-me-up. The girls came out tonight with that spark that we talked about yesterday. Halfway through the season, with a tough schedule our girls said to us ‘We aren’t done yet.’ “
A back-and-forth first half ended with a 3-2 Lenox lead after Elliot scored her second breakaway goal of the first 40 minutes with 1 minute, 25 seconds left on the clock.
“Our half time talk was super positive with all of the girls hyping each other up,” Gamberoni said. “With Audie Tresp getting more comfortable in goal we told her to keep making those incredible saves for us, which is what she did the entire second half.
“She was so aggressive in the net, coming out, clearing the ball, and making saves off corner kicks. The field was slick towards the end of the game but she held on tight to the ball. She’s playing amazing in net for us.”
The final goal of the night came when Julia Zanin, who had the other Lenox goal, placed a corner kick that bounced out to Ainslee Rodriguez, who set up Elliot for her third goal.
Lenox (5-4) hosts Drury on Friday.
