Taconic Takes Chicopee in Five Sets
CHICOPEE, Mass. – After giving up a 2-0 lead, the Taconic volleyball team earned a convincing win in the third set to beat Chicopee, 25-16, 25-17, 17-25, 17-25, 15-7, on Saturday.
Angelese Ward-Greene led the Thunder with eight kills and three blocks. She also had “at least 15” block attempt touches that made life a little easier for Taconic’s defense, Fyfe said.
Gracie Cormier had six kills, and Aliyah DelSonno pulled up 10 digs.
Ella Stodden directed Taconic’s offense with 20 assists.
Taconic coach Lance Fyfe said Taconic errors in the third set gave the Pacers confidence, and Chicopee’s resulting higher level of play made a difference.
“We did, however, begin to figure out how to stop Chicopee from being able to set their outside hitter in the end of the third set, and we started to work on our new offensive attack in the fourth set,” Fyfe said. “Switching gears like that requires everyone to step out of auto pilot and focus on something that we don't practice a lot. We had glimpses of success with it in the fourth, and ran this modified offense in the fifth with great success.
“I feel like this was a huge learning experience for all of us and look forward to using it again when we face similar teams in the future.”
Taconic (2-3) goes to Pittsfield on Monday.
