Taconic Ends Regular Season with Sweep of Southwick
PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Fernanda DeSiqueira had a season-high 12 kills, and the Taconic volleyball team shrugged off a slow start to earn a three-set win over Southwick on Wednesday.
Lexi Murphy Malloy also hit a season high with eight kills in the 25-15, 25-20, 25-22 win.
“The score doesn't really show it, but we got off to a slow start as it took a bit to get used to Southwick's style of play,” Taconic coach Lance Fyfe said. “The first set felt harder to win than the score shows as it took us time to get things going.
“In the second set, we found ourselves down, 6-9, but then Aliyah DelSonno took over with some really great serving and went on a 10-point run putting us in the lead by seven and boosting our confidence back up to where we needed to be.”
DelSonno finished with three aces and three kills to go along with nine digs.
Ella Stodden passed out 27 assists, and Gracie Cormier had five kills.
Taconic (9-9) learns on Friday who it will face in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class B Tournament.
