ROCKLAND, Mass. – Olivia Perez and Tyanna Lepicier each had seven kills Tuesday for the Mount Greylock volleyball team in a three-set loss to Rockland in the Division 4 State Tournament.

Lepicier and Perez also finished with 12 and eight digs, respectively, in the 25-18, 25-19, 25-13 decision.

"We had several of our best rallies, digs and attacks of the season with Tyanna and Olivia especially coming up with big offensive plays,” Mount Greylock coach Greg Geyer said. “But, in the end, Rockland's strong outside attacker and overall balance gave them the edge.”

After leaving Williamstown at 12:30 p.m., the Mounties did not arrive at the South Shore school until 15 minutes before the match was scheduled to begin.

The brief warmup period did not do Mount Greylock any favors against the fifth-seeded team in the state.

“Rockland is power rated at 1.86 and, after Longmeadow, is the second highest power rated team we faced all season,” Geyer said. “It took us a while in Set One to get in the flow and I thought we competed well with them. Greylock will be one year more experienced next year and looks forward to more competition.”

The 11-hour trip on a school night for a first round tournament game once again demonstrated the MIAA’s commitment to what it calls “educational athletics.”
