Lee Bowlers Edge McCann at Greylock Bowl and Golf
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Lee High bowling team came from behind to win two of three Baker System matches and defeat McCann Tech, 19-12, on Tuesday at Greylock Bowl and Golf.
Devyn Olds and J.T. Sorrentino finished strong in both Baker matches -- where five players bowl alternating frames -- to save the points for the Wildcats.
In the first match, Olds got a strike in the ninth frame, and Sorrentino finished with three straight strikes to secure a 192-180 win.
In the second, Olds earned a spare in the ninth, and Sorrentino followed with a strike and a nine as Lee prevailed, 163-141.
Sorrentino said it was a team effort all afternoon for Lee, which held onto first place in the Berkshire County League standings with is win over the second-place Hornets.
"Devyn's been bowling great all year," Sorrentino said. "He's been setting me up good all year, even though a couple of weeks ago I let him down.
"Today, we were down one of our best bowlers, he pulled something in the side of his back, Zach Wilson. So we had a couple of other bowlers step up, Jeff [Brown], Morgan [Powers], Sarah [Cook] and Zach Reynolds stepped up big in Bakers. It really turned out good today."
Lee came out of two games of head-to-head competition with a narrow 13-9 lead in team points.
Sorrentino won both is matches with scores of 202 and 230. Reynolds won twice with scores of 183 and 174. Brown and Olds each earned a dual win
Christ Bostwick earned a pair of wins for McCann with scores of 158 and 150. McCann also got wins from Kalley Vanuni and Brandon Vallone. Vallone's 242 in the second game was the high score from either team.
The teams split the points for total pinfall, with each squad earning the advantage in one of the two initial games.
The most exciting individual game of the day was turned in by Sorrentino, who rolled seven straight strikes to open his second game. He left two pins up in the eighth frame, and settled for a 230.
Afterward, he said that visions of a perfect game were entering his mind as the strikes mounted.
"Yeah, definitely," Sorrentino said. "It's definitely back there. You start thinking about it after the sixth frame, but you try as hard as you can to void it out. As the game progressed, my ball started to come up higher and higher every shot. I told someone that I should move left to counter it, and I just did it today."
In other action on Tuesday, Taconic's Lynsey Aldam rolled the day's top game with a 256 and top series with a 449 to lead her team to a 21-10 win over Mount Greylock.
Among the boys, Drury's Zach Yeaton had the top game (248) and series (447) to lead the Blue Devils to a 29-2 win over Mount Everett.
The day's other match featured third-place Pittsfield against Lee's Orange team. The Generals prevailed, 28-3, behind A.J. Moore's 234 high game and 419 series.
League play resumes on Jan. 29 at Ken's Bowl in Pittsfield.
