The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Tournament Management Committee Friday moved forward plans for a truncated spring season which the association still hopes can begin on April 27.

The TMC advanced several plans to the MIAA Board of Directors.

That is the current date for the start of the preseason practice period, which will be shortened to seven calendar days under a rule approved unanimously by the committee on Friday morning.

There are slightly different preseason rules for girls golf and rugby, two sports not played by Berkshire County schools.

For all sports except rugby, the maximum number of competitions allowed by the MIAA this spring will be 12 with a minimum number of eight required for post-season tournament consideration.

Thost tournaments would end no later than June 20, slightly later than would have been the case before the state association began making adjustments in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In one split decision, the TMC voted 13-3 that there will not be a post-season tournament if the spring season ends up beginning later than April 27.
