ADAMS, Mass. -- It is rare that a cross country race's scoring comes down to the top two finishers.

It is far more rare when the difference between first and second comes down to a fraction of a second.

Pioneer Valley Regional's Sam Bodenstein edged McCann Tech’s Brandon Miller by .4 seconds for first place, and the Panthers earned a one-point win over the Hornets at Greylock Glen.

Running without junior Captain Chris Sunn due to injury the McCann boys fell just short of evening their record to 5-5 in their final home meet of the fall.

Daniel McGrory was third overall, and Jordan Greenbush was fifth. Noah Forzon placed seventh for McCann Tech.

Pioneer Valley’s girls edged McCann Tech, 23-35.

The Panthers’ Brianna May (24 minutes, 49 seconds) edged McCann Tech freshman Camryn Moran (25:36) for first place.

Amy Harrington placed fifth, and Lily Marceau was eighth for the Hornets.

McCann Tech goes to Springfield Central on Tuesday.
