WESTFIELD, Mass. -- McCann Tech sophomore John Stack earned a 4-0 win to highlight the Hornets' season-opening match against St. Mary's at Tekoa Country Club on Tuesday.

St. Mary's came away with a 17.5-6.5 win, but McCann Tech got points from three players, including Stack.

First-year Eli Gagne earned a point, and classmate Ryan McCarthy dropped his match, 2.5-1.5.

"This McCann team is already showing competitive potential, and there is a great pool of young candidates eager to play, matched with the returning talent of two of last year's players," McCann Tech coach Chris Carr said. "It's exciting to think of what this crew will accomplish this season."

Ninth-graders Nolan Booth and Landon LeClair and junior Keeghen Scott also competed for McCann Tech on Tuesday.

The Hornets play their first home match of the fall on Thursday against Springfield International Charter School at Forest Park Country Club in Adams.
