County Grapplers Compete at All-State Tourney

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Four Berkshire County wrestlers are alive in consolation brackets after Day 1 at the All-State Wrestling Tournament at the Mass Mutual Center.
 
In the girls tournament, Mount Everett's Yaritza Cruz-Bravo earned a third-period pin in her her first consolation match.
 
On Monday, she will face Bristol County's Sophie Bettencourt in their pursuit of a third-place finish at 126 pounds.
 
Her Eagles teammate, Max Manning, won a pair of consolation matches in the mixed-gender meet on Sunday. He pinned Beverly's Carter Lang, at the end of the second period, before earning a major decision against Plymouth South's Caydon Boyd, 22-12.
 
Manning Monday faces Newton South's Nicholas Genin in the 150 consies.
 
Monument Mountain sent three wrestlers to the all-state meet.
 
Isaac Hartshorn won his opener in the 175-pound main draw, beating Winchester's Ilyas Muk, 10-4, but dropped a 4-1 decision to Silver Lake's Jack Sawiski in the quarter-finals.
 
Hartshorn then beat King Philip's Griffin McCreedy, 4-0, to reach Monday's match against Thomas Kineavy of Woburn.
 
Mount Greylock's Jacob Borawski also beat McCreedy -- in the Round of 16. After that 11-2 win, Borawski was edged, 5-3, by Central Catholic's Rhys Dewar in the quarter-finals.
 
Borawski came back to pin Orlando Spadola of Cambridge late in the second period.
 
On Monday, Borawski will start his day against St. John's Prep's Octavio DeOliveira.
