HOLYOKE, Mass. – Brenna McNeice recorded 10 aces and 22 assists Thursday to lead the Taconic volleyball team in a three-set win at Holyoke.

McNeice also had eight digs for the Thunder, which overcame a shaky start in the first set and kept its record perfect at 5-0.

“The first set was a real test of character for us as Holyoke played with a very different style,” Taconic coach Lance Fyfe said. “They were using placement and consistency only for the first 3/4 of the first set which included a lot of tipping and high and short underhand serving.  We haven't played against this type of play this season and it really threw us off, almost like we were learning a new sport.

“After making some adjustments to this style and tightening up the score, Holyoke began to actually attack with some aggressive swings which again caught us off guard.  We were however able to maintain our composure and fight back with enough confidence to win that first set 31-29.”

Ciana Bennett had 12 digs and eight serve receives. Nyashia Daniels led the team in kills with 10 and aces with five.

Ruby Robertson had 10 digs, and Natalia Dos Santos had 16 serve receives, seven digs, three kills and three assists.

“Our goal [after the first set] was to take charge early and play our own game in order to keep them on their heels, and that's exactly what we did in the final two sets,” Fyfe said. “The celebration on the bus ride home was really loud, but it was well deserved and I was really happy for them.”
