Taconic Fourth, Monument's Dargie Wins Title in Athol

ATHOL, Mass. – Broc Healey and Noah Poirier Saturday wrestled to second-place finishes to lead the Taconic wrestling team to a fourth-place finish at the Bears Invitational.
 
At 170 pounds, Healey earned four pins to reach the finals before he was stopped by Minnechaug’s Liam Meeker.
 
Division 2 Minnechaug won the event with 248.5 points, more than 50 points ahead of the field. Taconic earned 110 points.
 
Poirier added to that total with three pins at 160 pounds. He ended up falling in the finals to Minnechaug’s Calvin Stiles by a score of 9-3.
 
Taconic’s Brandon Petel and Ethan Nichols each ended his day with a win to take this place at 113 and 195, respectively.
 
Monument Mountain placed eighth out of 21 schools at the season-opening event.
 
Keegan Dargie led the way with a title at 113.
 
Dargie reached the final with a pair of pins that each ended in less than a minute. He then defeated Mount Greylock’s Emery Rotter with a 20-12 major decision in the championship bout.
 
Monument Mountain’s Sam St. Peter was a runner-up at 285 after going 2-1 on the day.
 
The Mounties’ Rotter also recorded two pins on his way to the title bout.
 
Mount Greylock had a pair of wrestlers reach the consolation finals: Seth Blanchard at 132 and Hunter Marceau at 220.
